Description of Event: 

The Bread and Roses Heritage Committee is seeking a non-paid Volunteer Coordinator to help recruit and manage a team of volunteers that carry out different roles the day of the festival on September 5, 2016. 
 
The Volunteer Coordinator is an extremely organized individual, with great communication skills and with the ability to resolve challenges as they arise. This is an ideal position for an individual excited to take on a leadership role in a mission-driven organization. The Volunteer Coordinator will work closely with a diverse group committed to preserving the legacy of the Bread and Roses Strike of 1912.

Position responsibilities:

  • Assist with recruitment and coordination of volunteer groups 
  • Respond to volunteer phone calls and e-mails in a timely manner
  • Coordinate volunteer orientations during  the month of August
  • Engage and support new and returning volunteers 
  • Must be available to coordinate all volunteer activities on September 5, 2016
  • Organizes volunteers for day-of-festival work including set up, clean up, staffing information and sales tent, circulation of  donation buckets, stage support, assisting announcers and stage managers
  • Oversees volunteer perks including  food vouchers and t-shirts 
  • Conduct outreach during community events as needed 

Skills and experience:

  • Experience and desire to work with people from diverse backgrounds
  • Strong language and communication skills 
  • Ability to train, manage, and support groups of up to 100 people in a service project
  • Strong organization skills and willingness to be flexible in a fast paced environment
  • Demonstrated ability to solve problems and think strategically
  • Priority will be given to individuals residing in Lawrence, MA 
  • Spanish fluency is a plus

Time Commitment:
10 hours per week (includes occasional evenings and weekends)
Although this is not a board position, given the critical nature of the Volunteer Coordinator role, attendance at monthly board meetings is expected.
